Frequently Asked Questions

This section provides answers to some common queries about us or our services.

If you mean are we excited about the preaching and teaching of God’s Word the answer is yes! If you mean do we speak in tongues the answer is never.

An independent Baptist Church is connected or associated with any denotation or headquarters. We are absolutely Baptist in polity, doctrine, history, separation and fellowship. However, independent Baptist churches operate as separate and autonomous churches when it comes to church government. We do work with other Baptist churches of like faith and practice in areas such as missions, camps, retreats, youth meetings and so forth. Yet, each church operates as it feels led of the Lord.

We do not use what is commonly referred to as “contemporary Christian music” nor do we use what is often called “praise and worship music.” All of our song services are hymnal based. This is the music God has used. The difference between so-called “praise and worship music” and the tried and tested hymnbook music is best seen in what they have produced. The hymns are associated with the great revivals of the past that swept across Europe and America. Contemporary music is connected to the shallow and doctrinally anemic culture that is found in so many modern day churches that use it.

No. We are without apology “Baptist” in name, faith, practice and doctrine. We do not work with any churches other than Baptist churches of like faith and practice.

The official Bible of Faith Baptist Church is the King James Version. While no one will check to see what version you have at the door, it is the only Bible we use in both preaching and teaching. It is also the only Bible we encourage our people to read and study. This is an issue far too big to get into here. Yet, to summarize we use the King James Bible for the following reasons: (These are just a short list of reasons)
Firstly,

We believe in providential preservation of the scriptures. This means that God not only revealed his word to the writers and inspired them to write down what He revealed without error, but God has also been busy and is still busy preserving His Word from generation to generation. Thus, the common man and woman can have a trustworthy copy of God’s Word without having to be an expert in Greek. We do not believe the King James translators were inspired. We do not believe that the entire world will answer to the King James Bible. We do not believe that the King James Bible corrects the originals. However, we do believe that God has preserved His Word in tact for the English speaking people through the King James Bible.

The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever (Psalm 12:6-7).

Secondly,

While it is often said that the modern versions simply make the word of God easier to understand, in reality most often the changed wording also changes the meaning or hinders the meaning. Just one example out of a multitude is the frequently mentioned use of “Ye, Thee and Thou.” The new versions simply replace these with “you and your.” Yet, by doing so the meaning of the text is destroyed because the three pronouns mentioned above are used for a specific purpose. They are employed to convey the singular-plural distinctions in the second person forms of pronouns and verbs. This distinction is quite lost when “thou, thee, and thy” are replaced with “you and your.” “Thee and Thou” are singular, while “Ye and You” are plural. This is lost when you replace them all with “You and Your.”

For example:
  • Exodus 4:15. "THOU shalt speak unto him, and put words in his mouth; and I will be with THY mouth, and with his mouth, and will teach YOU what YE shall do." The THOU, THY refer to Moses, but YOU refers to the nation which would be instructed by the spokesman Aaron. If you simply use “you and your” it is impossible to tell who is being spoken to in the text.
  • Exodus 29:42. "This shalt be a continual burnt offering throughout YOUR generations at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation before the LORD where I will meet YOU, to speak there unto THEE." The YOU, referring to the children of Israel, is explained in the following verse, but THEE refers to Moses, who had the holy privilege of hearing the words of God directly (Leviticus 1:1).
  • John 3:7. "Marvel not that I said unto THEE, YE must be born again." The message was spoken to an individual, Nicodemus, but the message referred to all men. The same phenomenon occurs in verse 11, where we read: "I say unto THEE ... that YE receive not our witness."
Thirdly,
the reason we use the King James Bible is also seen when you test the N.I.V. for example, against the King James Version. Below is just a handful out of hundreds of test verses. Check out the N.I.V. with the King James Bible using these verses.
